Become a Backer of Bluecrowne at The Arcana Shop, Where Your Support is Rewarded with Books and Oddball Sundries

Did you miss out on all the super-fun rewards available to Kickstarter backers? Not to worry. Here at the Arcana Shop, you can be the first on your block to become a backer of Bluecrowne, which is scheduled for release in summer 2013. Got questions, like WHY ARE YOU DOING THIS AGAIN? Scroll past the rewards for FAQ’s.

Sales are securely processed through Gumroad and Vook. For their pains, Gumroad takes %5 plus $0.25 per sale and Vook takes 15%; everything else goes straight into the Arcana Project coffers toward the costs of Bluecrowne. Your rewards will be fulfilled immediately, with the exception of Bluecrowne itself, which you’ll be sent in early summer, just in advance of its official release.

Without further ado, here are the rewards I’ve come up so far! Many are one-of-a-kind, so if you see something you love, don’t wait or it may disappear on you. Unless otherwise noted, domestic shipping is included on all items (international backers, add $10 unless otherwise instructed). Would you like to add a digital copy of The Kairos Mechanism and a handmade bookmark (because those go together like peanut butter and jelly)? Add $10. ProTip: you can contribute whatever you like–the amounts listed here are, as on Kickstarter and other crowdfunding sites, a minimum.

FAQs:

Q: Didn’t we just finish doing this?

A: Sure, but didn’t you like how it turned out?

Q: So why aren’t you doing Kickstarter this time? And if it comes out next summer, why are you putting this page up so far in advance?

A: Well, frankly I’m naively hoping that sales from The Kairos Mechanism will pay for most of Bluecrowne, but whether or not they actually will remains to be seen. So the plan here is to attempt to raise some of the costs of Bluecrowne (which I am estimating to be $8000), while still allowing time to do a Kickstarter or Indiegogo campaign next spring if necessary. Why so early? Next spring I’m also going to be deep in revisions for Greenglass House (coming out from Clarion in spring 2014) and The Left-Handed Fate (coming out from Holt in fall 2014), so this is also an attempt to set up the structure in advance so as to give myself some breathing room and minimize my likely stress.

As with The Kairos Mechanism, funds will be used to copyedit the Bluecrowne manuscript, illustrate and design the cover and interior, print a first edition of 300 paperbacks on the Espresso Book Machine, and pay one young illustrator per chapter to create a special, reader-illustrated digital edition.

Q: Your Kickstarter goal for Kairos was only $6500. Why the bump?

A: $8000 is just about what I actually raised for The Kairos Mechanism, and it turned out to be not a penny less than what I needed. I underestimated shipping costs by a landslide, for instance. Also, I decided I wanted to plan to bump up the artists’ compensation from $100 to $150 right out of the gate. They are turning in amazing work for Kairos. Really amazing.

Q: When’s the Illustrated Kairos coming out?

A: November, just in time for holiday e-giving. Want to be the first to know when it’s ready? email kate (at) clockworkfoundry (dot) com.
