Thursday, 3/5, 1:15-2:05: SCHOOL LIBRARY JOURNAL’S MIDDLE GRADE MADNESS “Mystery and Mayhem” panel (Virtual event; registration required.)

Join me for a super-fun panel discussion with Ha Dinh (Ly-Lan and the Missing Tooth Fairy), Kat Flores (Mo and the Crow: The Mystery of the Lost Locket), Richard Ashley Hamilton (Leo da Vinci: Renaissance Kid), and Gordon Korman (Sleepless), moderated by Ashley Rayner! There’s truly something here for everyone, from younger MG readers to graphic novel aficionados, and every book has a touch of mystery (and yes, more than a bit of mayhem). The event is free, but registration is required.

April

Saturday, 4/11, 1-4pm: SOUTH JERSEY BOOK FAIR (Haddonfield, NJ)

Come join this fantastic roster of authors and illustrators (and me!) for an afternoon of bookish fun. The fabulous Inkwood Books will be there to make sure you leave with plenty of reading material. (And SHHHH I’m not telling anyone but YOU–yes, you–but I *might* [WILL!!!] have Rialto three days early for this festival!)

Tuesday, 4/14, 7pm: RIALTO LAUNCH AT MCNALLY JACKSON SEAPORT, IN CONVERSATION WITH ADAM GIDWITZ! (NYC)

IT’S RIALTO DAY!! Junior Library Guild chose it as a Gold Standard Selection; Kirkus says, “‘Once upon a time, it was magical’: true of the book and its setting alike”; Publishers Weekly says it’s a winking whirlwind adventure. But one of my favorite commentaries on the book comes from Adam Gidwitz, who called Rialto ‘a monumental piece of work, and utterly transportative.’ Adam hardly needs an introduction from me–you know him from the Newbery Honor-winning The Inquisitor’s Tale, the Tale Dark and Grimm series, and the Grimm, Grimmer, Grimmest podcast. But you might not know that back in 2009, Adam and I were on a panel together at the NYPL, introducing our first books (The Boneshaker and A Tale Dark and Grimm), and we’ve been friends and fans of each other’s books ever since. I’ll be celebrating Rialto‘s official launch in conversation with Adam at my alma mater of McNally Jackson, in their beautiful Seaport location. Come join us for an evening of fun and storytelling!

Friday, 4/17, 4-6pm: HANG OUT AT HIGH-FIVE BOOKS (Florence, MA)

Oh, boy, this one is going to be fun. First of all, if you’re up anywhere near Florence or Northampton, MA, and you haven’t visited High-Five Books, don’t wait for April; go this weekend, and you’ll thank me later. But also, come by on April 17th for an afterschool hang-out with me! I’ll bring some stamps and we’ll make some bookmarks, and remember that High-Five is one of the three stores with preorder gifts–I have exclusive vinyl stickers to give out with purchase of Rialto. (And amazing news: the stickers will be based on the interior illustrations by the brilliant James Firnhaber! Check out his gorgeous interpretation of the winged ounce below!)
